Sketches From The Road

It’s summer road trip time for the Endres, PA to WI, for a family reunion and some serious biking on the Sparta-Elroy bike trail.

Along the way, we each have our tote of drive time distractions. Mine includes, along with my Kindle and a hard copy of my current read (Lost Prince by Seldon Edwards), my sketchbook. We left home around noon and by the time we hit Toldedo, I had roughed out eight gown sketches for my 2016 Bridal Collection.

I’ve committed myself to completing at least one sample by the second week in September, and I’m pretty sure this sketch is the one to begin with. as I have the silk on hand in my sewing studio, begging to become a beautiful creation.

When I’m home again and cutting this design, I’ll share fabric swatches and a more detailed sketch. Until then, I’ll be having fun with the family and as always, doing some fashion stalking. Photos to follow, I promise, but I don’t know if it will be the good, the bad, or the ugly. Most likely, it will be a little of each.

On we go, into the night.

Impetus

A Facebook friend asked me this week if I was “still doing my sewing posts?”  Um, still sewing whims. Still doing photo shoots. Doing my sewing posts? No. Guilty. Thanks, Coleene, for the impetus to post.

A few days later, I went to the dentist with a completed alteration in hand. As I walked in, a lady on the waiting room looked at me and said, “I just have to ask, who brings a David’s Bridal dress bag to the dentist?” I explained I had altered a bridesmaid dress for one of the assistants there at  Affordable Aesthetic Dentistry and was returning the altered dress. We talked about sewing, elaborate costumes her mom makes for her kiddos, and fabric accumulation. Ha! Fabric accumulation was an easy segue to my Whim-a-Week project. As I gave her my blog address, I thought, “Yikes! I need to post!” Thank you, dentist office lady, for impetus to post.

While I was  in the dentist chair, Kristen stepped out of the room and out of her scrubs to model her perfectly fitted dress (shortened and taken in at bodice top edge).

And I’m back. All I needed was a little impetus.

Whim 16 on Wednesday

Whim 16 is a floral frock for Isabella and the story leading to this statement is worth the telling. Just not tonight.

Tonight is not for sewing. My husband works on the road but tonight he is sitting here with me. I’m not sewing or taking photos of a whim or anything else that makes me leave his side.

Tomorrow I will post the sketch for Whim 16 as well as a few tips for squeezing a dress out of yardage that measures short of what the pattern requires.

But not tonight.

Cheers!
