Our friends are adopting a baby girl from China. They started the process in January 2013. They were matched in November 2013, and began a journey that abruptly ended in December. Their baby girl would not be coming home because … Continue reading

First Peak at Whim 10 Complete
Well, Whim 10 is done. I won’t have opportunity to model the fit until tomorrow, but here’s a peak!
If you recall, I planned to make a belt to go with this in a contrasting print. When I tried on the dress this afternoon to mark the hem length, I could see the idea of a thinner belt was not what the dress asked for. So I set aside the to-be-constructed belt for now. I have several wider belts in my wardrobe and one is sure to be the right look.
I’ll tell you all about the good, the bad, and the ugly of this whim in the not-so-sleepy morning!
Taxes and Fittings and Babes, OH MY!
Oh, what a week I’ve had so far!
First of all, it’s tax season, and yes, I have 33 days until my completed tax return has to be filed according to Uncle Sam, but according to the admissions department of Lehigh University where my daughter hopes to attend next year, I have only 18 days. They want specific details from our 2013 return by March 31st. So I have been wading through the many details of filing for my two businesses (sewing and singing), my husband’s business deductions, educational deductions for two college age dependents, and more. I’m not done yet, but I’m progressing. And I feel the pressure.
Typically, I like to work on Monday on my whim of the week. That leaves Tuesday for photos and posting. I planned on getting into my sewing studio yesterday, but I was in the zone of tax documents and excel spreadsheets, and then it was 11 pm. I had reached a stopping point, and it was time for bed.
I had a fitting scheduled today in the early evening with a bride. This meant two things: first, I did not have all day to work on my whim-photos-posting, and second, I had to give the whole downstairs a good tidying-up. Working from home is wonderful, but clients coming into my home travel through most of the ground floor rooms before they get to my sewing studio. And I had Grammy duty with Eliana while her mommy went to classes afternoon through evening.
By late morning, I had the bodice of the dress complete except for hand-stitching. After lunch, Isabella left for class and I spent some time cleaning while baby Eliana played, but did not get back to sewing. “I’ll be able to finish up after my fitting tonight”, I thought.
Fast forward, tidy house, napping baby, successful fitting with real sweet bride (Jessica), and a niggling at the back of my mind through it all becuase of an incomplete Whim 10. I just needed 2 hours to finish up! But Eliana was fussy at bed time, and didn’t settle down to sleep so I could work. As I held her and she snuggled in , half asleep on my shoulder, I thought, “I can finish Whim 10 tomorrow.”
And that’s what I’m goig to do. I’m still making a whim a week, because Whim 10 will be completed tomorrow, and week 10 in this 2014 whim-a-week project will be fully represented. I’ll be double-posting with Whim 11 idea board tomorrow as well as completed Whim 10. Preliminary photo of Whim 10 may have to be a selfie, but Anna is available on Thursday for real photo shoot, and we’ll get it done.
